Using events to build brand awareness

Organising a fun run or fair, or perhaps a free educational experience, shows your potential clients that you know your stuff and are willing to help them out (to a degree) in return for their time and attention, rather than just their money.

Doing so in conjunction with a local cause, charity or organisation will demonstrate that you are interested in benefiting the community as a whole, rather than just trying to secure sales. You can even take this one step further with partnership and sponsorship.

Sample event plan

Below is an example of the steps a local business can take to engage with a community by attending a local event, with the aim of creating brand awareness.

6 months before:

  • Confirm the date of your event.
  • Book and pay for the pitch.
  • Notify your Regional Area Manager of the date to see if there is any support they can offer, e.g. booking pop up stand (if available).
  • Organise a gazebo for the day.
  • Confirm the date to staff to ensure there’s enough staff to cover the stand on the day.
  • Consider how you might advertise that you’re attending the event/encourage visitors to your stand.

1 month before:

  • Order drinks.
  • Order YBS branded merchandise through the promotional items section of the Agency Marketing Hub.

Day before:

  • Buy final supplies.
  • Blow up the balloons and attach to sticks Pack everything you need.
  • Tables for drinks and sweets.
  • Chairs for children.

Day of Event:

  • Put the gazebo up.
  • Staff to decorate the gazebo.
  • Take photos as soon as you are set up and submit them to our media team and also put them on your core business (if applicable) Facebook page to invite people to come and join us.
  • Have your product/service literature out on display, including any YBS Mortgage or Savings literature you wish to take.
  • Staff ready to hand out refreshments/speak to visitors.

Event Banners

We have two banners you can use at your events (1 x Pull up banner and 1 x Banner for the front of a table), and these can be ordered via your Regional Area Manager for use at an event. Just remember to book them out with your Regional Area Manager in good time for your event.
