About the Media Relations Team

pr-squircles-200x375The Media Relations team can help you raise awareness of the Yorkshire Building Society brand and your agency through positive media coverage. We provide support to local agencies by sending out press releases to your local media, websites, radio and TV stations.

Primarily this is done by shouting about fantastic corporate responsibility work such as fundraising for End Youth Homelessness, Charitable Foundation donations, collections for good causes and volunteering.

If you think we can help you, please give us 2-3 weeks’ notice.

Please note you should always contact us if you receive correspondence or a query from a journalist or MP.

What makes a good press release?

  • It has to be newsworthy – look at your local newspaper to see the type of stories they are covering.
  • Doing something with a purpose i.e. supporting a charitable cause you have links with or a personal reason, rather than ‘just because’.
  • Include a photo. Here’s some helpful tips to help you get the best snap.
  • Raising awareness of your agency, not others. It may sound simple but if a competitor bank or building society is closing nearby we can help raise awareness of your great work locally in a timely manner, without negatively mentioning the competitors.

Helpful tips

  • When taking photographs please ensure anyone from outside the Group has signed the consent form. Download the Consent Form.
  • We have photographic props available if you’d like to use them. If these are used, please return them to us as we only have a small amount.

props

  • The examples above are a good demonstration on how the props can be used.
  • Please ensure we have full names for everyone that appears in the photographs, from left to right.
  • Photographs must be at least 1MB in size so choose the high resolution setting on your phone and when e-mailing to us please select the ‘keep original size’ or ‘large size’ option.
  • When you have finished with the props please post back to YBS Press Office as soon as possible. Thank you.
