The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is an independent registered charity with two priority areas: alleviating poverty and improving health/saving lives. To do this, the Charitable Foundation makes donations to UK registered charities who support beneficiaries such as children, the seriously ill, the elderly, the homeless and the disabled in the UK. Charities are considered for donations from £250 to £2,000 for an item or activity that will directly benefit the charity’s beneficiaries.

The Charitable Foundation only accepts recommendations from our members and colleagues, rather than directly from the charities; this is because our members and colleagues largely fund the Charitable Foundation through YBS’s Small Change Big Difference® scheme.

How Can You Get Involved

The SCBD scheme funds the Charitable Foundation by allowing Society members to donate the annual pence from their interest; the average donation is less than 50p. By introducing SCBD to customers and talking about the great work of the Charitable Foundation when setting up new savings accounts, together we can increase the positive impact on communities throughout the UK.

To get up to speed on the eligibility criteria and what the Charitable Foundation funds, look at the latest information on the Community Hub. Here you’ll also find guidance on how to apply and what to do when you have a successful nomination in your area.

You can also encourage colleagues and members to visit the website where there is a link to the nomination form.

Business Benefits

Recommending local charities to receive a donation from the Charitable Foundation is a brilliant way to build a great reputation in your community and often leads to positive media coverage. Many colleagues have told us that talking about the SCBD scheme is a great way to build and deepen relationships with customers as you can find out what they care about and share how YBS can help.

Don’t forget our Media Relations Team may help generate some press coverage, so if you have a good story please get in contact.
